Below are a few suggestions and sites of interests for spending time on the Mekong. Choose sites to match everyone’s interests and schedule. We would be happy help design a “Custom Mekong Cruise”  for you.

Mekong Eden Farm (South)

Mekong Eden Farm is a sustainable organic farm situated in the south along the Mekong. Stop for an agro-ecological garden tour or enjoy a freshly prepared organic lunch or sunset dinner while overlooking stunning views of the Mekong. Accessible by boat only.

Lao Pottery House & Restaurant (South)

Lao Pottery House is located in Ban Channuea, 5 km. downriver from Luang Prabang. This small village has been manufacturing pottery for over 400 years. Participate in a 1-hour traditional Lao pottery making experience or join a half-day pottery workshop.

Pak Ou Caves (North)

Pak Ou caves, also known as Buddha caves, are located 25 km north upriver. They hold great significance for the Lao people and are one of Luang Prabang’s more popular sites of interest. The cruise to the caves offers magnificent views of mountainous landscapes. Minimum 4 hours.

Local Villages – Handicrafts, Textiles & Lao Whiskey making (North)

Make a stop in Ban Sang Khong (Saa Paper Village) and explore the many shops specializing in Lao handicrafts and textiles. Visit Ban Xang Hai (Whiskey Village) for a taste of Lao Lao whiskey and learn how this local rice whiskey is made .

Temples of Chomphet (Across from Luang Prabang)

Stop to discover one of the historical buddhist temples in Chomphet. Explore the caves of Wat Sack Kalin, walk the beautifully manicured grounds of Wat Kokpab, or walk to Wat Nong Sakeo for a stunning view overlooking Luang Prabang & the Mekong.

Lunch w/ Ms. Phai in Ban Saleuan (South)

Delight in a village lunch with Ms. Phai. Make yourselves at home and soak up some local hospitality in Ban Saleuan, a 1-hour cruise south of Luang Prabang.

Lunch at Lang Ban Garden Restaurant (North)

Enjoy delicious traditional Lao dishes at this scenic restaurant overlooking the Mekong and on route to Pak Ou caves.

Picnic Lunch on the Beach (Location can vary depending on the season)

Departure time is flexible and can be arranged for the hours between 8AM and 10AM depending on the season and availability.

Meeting the Boat

We offer transfers to and from the boat and will pick you up directly at your hotel. Within city limits.

If you would like to make your own way to the boat, the confirmation of dock will be provided at the time of your booking.

Suitable footwear and clothing for the appropriate seasons. Mornings and evenings can be cool during the winter months.

Sun protection and bug spray.

Swimming gear and towel for the beach, if needed.

Please ensure you are dressed appropriately and respectfully for visiting any religious sites in Laos.

Ladies should have their shoulders and knees covered. Men should also have their shoulders covered but knee shorts are acceptable.

Things To Consider

Visiting Local Sites of Interest

When visiting local villages and temples along the Mekong river, do be aware that oftentimes there are no paved pathways and you’re usually met with uneven ground and stairways. We ask each of our guests to please be aware of your own fitness level and to take this into consideration on your tour.

Cultural Considerations

Please ensure you are dressed appropriately and respectfully for entering any religious site in Laos. Villages have their own local temples, so kindly take note of this if you wish to pay them a visit.

Responsible Tourism

We kindly ask our guests not to hand out money to children in the villages they visit. Should you wish to support any of the villages or temples that you come across, please let us know and we’ll be happy to advise on how to do that responsibly.
